NSW Premier's Shortlist

Lovely news yesterday - Across the Dark Sea has been shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Community Relations Award. What an honour!

It's also very humbling to see it listed with books by people who have lived this story themselves - and exciting to see that more people are feeling able to write about their own experiences. The more we read (or write) stories like this, the more we see that we all have the same feelings, no matter what the colour of our skin or where we happen to be born. To me, that's one of the most important things about literature.
